Making a Clothespin Apron

It really isn't hard to create a clothespin apron, as a matter of fact, any apron with nice big pockets can be used for hanging out laundry.  I have two that I like to use, one is a vintage full apron in pretty pale purple, green  and yellow with yellow rick-rack trim.  The other is a new bib apron my mom made for me using Mary Engelbreit fabric.  Both of these are great because they have nice deep pockets for stashing pins in.

If you would like to make your own clothespin apron, but don't do a lot of sewing here's an easy way to adapt any pre-made apron.

You will need

  • 1 pre-made apron, any style you like

  • 1 dish towel (preferably not terry cloth, as pins will snag it)

  • pins & sewing machine or fusible webbing and needle & thread

What to Do

  • Wash and dry both pieces.

  • Center dish towel on apron (this will be your pocket)

  • Pin towel in place and stitch around the two sides, bottom and 2-3 inches from either side on the top (making sure to leave a big enough space for your hand to fit comfortably)

OR

  • Follow directions on fusible webbing to attach the pocket to the apron, use needle and thread to tack for added support
