Making
Your Own Laundry Soap
While I would
love to be able to claim this idea as my own, it is just one of the
many I have discovered here online. The directions are very
simple and straight forward, I don't foresee any problems once
we get started on this project.
You will need
-
4 cups very hot water
in a two gallon container
-
1/3 bar Fels Naptha
soap grated very fine (usually found in large bars in the laundry soap aisle,
if not try the regular soap aisle)
-
1/3 cup borax (in the
laundry aisle, the 20 Mule brand is most common)
-
1/3 cup washing soda
(by the borax, Arm and Hammer brand is mot common)
What to Do
-
Add the grated Fels
Naptha soap to the hot water and and shake or stir, allow to sit until
lukewarm (some sites even recommend letting it set overnight) - this will not
look like commercial soap, more like gloop.
-
Add borax and washing
soda and mix well
-
Fill container the rest
of the way with warm water and mix well
Use about 1/2 cup per
load. If you would like your soap to have a scent, add 1/2oz. to 1
oz. essential oil to finished product. |
