The rustic home
interior design is airy and bright with open shelves, beamed ceilings,
tall doors, area rugs, and windows.
Now, think soft and homey.
Think small print patterns; think roosters, fruit, floral, and geometric. Add
Mediterranean colors: cornflower blue, sunflower yellow, red poppy, terra cotta
and natural greens.
Decorating fabrics
associated with rustic home decor are cottons, quilting, and fringes. Layer your
fabrics with contrasting colors, textures and patterns.
Vintage lace is a big yes,
as are accent pillows and painted furniture. Giving your home a traditional
rustic feel.
Decorating with Warm
Colors
Professional decorators have
great fun inventing the color schemes for rooms and one of their favorite
"tricks" is to take a lovely vase, picture, rug or perhaps a chair and "build
up" the color scheme to that. Which means they take the color of the chosen
object and let that count as the dominating color and shade of color. Everything
else in the room is made to harmonize with it.
Color is the visual language
of the emotions. Use its subtle but profound influence to create a unique
atmosphere that compliments your home furnishings.
Different colors have
different effects, so choose dominant colors in a room to set the mood, and
accent with complimentary or related colors.
To make your guests feel
cozy and comfortable, use warm earth tone colors, which are easy to mix and
match.
Think of bringing together
natural elements: autumn leaves, sandy beaches and seashells, and approaching
thunderclouds at sunset.
The earth-tone palette
includes brown, ivory, tan and gray.
Warm colors - reds and
oranges - create a lively, stimulating atmosphere.
Red is the color of fire and
passion. Color theory also suggests red stimulates digestion.
Orange tones offer a warm,
welcoming note. These are strong colors, so whether you use them boldly or just
for small touches, these hues will add dramatic richness to any décor.
Yellow evokes cheerfulness,
the color equivalent of bringing sunshine indoors. Van Gogh called it "a color
capable of charming God." Monet liked it so well he had his whole dining room
painted in shades of yellow. Yellow, like red and orange, also tends to reflect
light and cast a glow of color in the space in which it is used.
