Kitchen Cleaning Tips

 

To easily clean your blender, fill half way up with hot water and add a drop of dish detergent.  Cover and turn on for a few seconds.  Rinse and drain dry.
To clean your copper pots, fill a spray bottle with vinegar and add 3 tablespoons of salt.  Spray solution liberally on the copper pot.  Let set for a while then simply rub clean.
If your copper pots have tarnished, you can cut a lemon in half, dip in salt and rub to remove or rub with Worcestershire sauce or catsup.  The tarnish will disappear.  Clean with toothpaste and rinse.
Loosen built up grime on your can opener with an old tooth brush.  To thoroughly clean blades, run a paper towel through the cutting process.
Sprinkle burnt pans liberally with baking soda, adding just enough water to moisten.  Let stand for several hours.  You can generally lift the burned portions right out of the pan.
Stubborn stains on non-stick cookware can be removed by boiling 2 tablespoons baking soda, 1/2 cup vinegar and 1 cup water for 10 minutes.  Re-season pan with salad oil.
Clean the outside of your cast iron skillets with commercial oven cleaner.  Lets set for 2 hours and the accumulated black stains can be removed with vinegar and water.
Fill a casserole dish that contains stuck food bits with boiling water and 2 tablespoons of baking soda.  Let it stand and wash out.

To shine chrome, use vinegar or window cleaner.

If the numbers on your oven dial are worn, take a yellow crayon and rub over the number on the dial.  Gently wipe off the excess crayon and paint with clear nail polish.
To clean spattered food from the interior of your microwave, bring one cup of water with a tablespoon of lemon juice to a boil until steam forms on the inside walls of the microwave.  Carefully remove water and wipe walls with a damp cloth.  You may have to repeat the process to get a really big job done.
To rid yellowing from white appliances try this: Mix together 1/2 cup bleach, 1/4 cup baking soda, and 4 cups warm water.  Apply with a sponge and let set for 10 minutes.  Rinse and dry thoroughly.
For quick clean-ups, rub with equal parts of water and household ammonia.  You can also try club soda, it cleans and polishes at the same time.
