Country Kitchen Decorating

One of the best parts of having a country kitchen is the fun of giving your decor your own personal touch. In a country kitchen anything goes, from garden veggies to down on the farm critters. The backgrounds and graphics that decorate this page represent my own country kitchen.  My accent wallpaper is almost this same plaid and my light wall paper matches this pattern and color perfectly!  Our accent border features beautiful roosters and hens and I have added my own sunflower touches.

Here are some more theme ideas to get you started.  The only rule...make your space your own!

A collection of blue and white china or tea pots could be used as an inspiration in your kitchen decorating. Display on painted country type shelves above the windows and doors or in a corner cupboard or in your regular cupboards with the doors removed.
A retro theme using colorful Fiestaware , from the 1930's and 40's and other accessories from that period, either original collectibles or reproduction pieces.
A flower garden theme, using all the bright colors of the garden. Use walls to display garden items and flower prints and a border reflecting this theme could be of birdhouses, or flowers. Use plants on window sills.
A sunflower theme with sunflower borders and coordinating curtains and towels. The color scheme would be shades of yellow, green and brown, and how about some barn red for accents.
A cow theme, with cow borders, cow prints, and cow accessories. Use other barnyard items to add interest, A red barn clock would be perfect. Colors of course would be white or cream, black, and accents could be barn red, yellow and green. Use checked fabric for curtains and table linens.
Old kitchen appliances can be painted if their current color doesn't work with your idea. Be sure to use appliance paint. Painting is cheaper than having all the appliances replaced. You can do-it-yourself (maybe if you are willing to take the time to prepare) for the refrigerator and probably the dishwasher, but the range needs to be done by a professional. Kitchen decorating is a great do-it-yourself project, but be practical, if you take on more than you are qualified to do, it could cost you a lot to have corrections made by experts if you have a major failure.
Any idea you have can be used in a theme for your country kitchen decorating. There is no wrong idea here if you keep in mind that you are going to have to use paint that can be washed, and floor coverings that will hold up to wear and spillage that can occur in the kitchen. If you use a braid rug, be sure to use the slip resistant pad under it to avoid nasty falls.
