Hush Puppy Mix in a Jar

1 1/2 c. yellow corn meal
3/4 c. flour
3 tbsp. dried minced onion
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. ground red pepper

Combine all ingredients together in a large bowl
and mix well. Place in a jar. Decorate if desired
and attach card. Makes 2 1/4 cups mix.

Hush Puppies
You will need:
vegetable oil
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
1 beaten egg
1 jar mix

In a deep skillet, heat 1 1/2 inches of vegetable oil
to 350F. Combine the mix with buttermilk and egg.
Stir until well blended. Drop by spoonfuls into hot oil.
Fry until golden brown and thoroughly cooked through.
Drain on paper towels and serve.
