Creating Kitchen Keepsakes

Have you ever heard of a recipe journal, or maybe even been lucky enough to get one from a long lost relative? Recipe journals are keys to the past for future generations and they hold some of our dearest memories. Something that makes me think of my great grandmother more than anything else is really good homemade macaroni and cheese made with penne pasta. What better way to let my children remember her than with some of her best recipes, if only I had them... With a recipe journal your children won't be saying if only! What makes a recipe journal more than just a handwritten cookbook? Include in it family favorite dinners what was served, who made what, and a few special family memories too. Don't forget the recipes! What about your everyday family favorites? Have you included your famous fried chicken recipe (or whatever wonderful kitchen creation is tops around your house)? Think of this journal as one to share with others, a way of remembering wonderful family times and flavors!

A recipe scrapbook is a lot like a recipe journal, only is is made up many great recipes from many different cooks.  Each page (or set of pages) should focus on a special person in your family.  Include a picture of the cook and one or more of their most popular recipes.  Want to make it even more special?  Have each cook hand write their recipe for you. It will a family treasure for many years to come.  A great opening page for your scrapbook would be a large family tree layout.  Want to give a recipe scrapbook as a gift?  What better way to welcome a new member of the family than to give the new bride and groom a family recipe scrapbook.  Want to make it even more special?  Include plenty of blank pages in the back for the new couple to add in special recipes from the "in-laws" and create a family tree layout where the roots of the tree are visible, making one side the bride's and the other the groom's.  The bride and groom's names go on the trunk and the tree branches have plenty of open spaces for all the future children!
