Tips and Tidbits

This is my version of Strawberry Shortcake for a crowd.  It's got the same basic ingredients but is much better for taking to church potlucks and family get-togethers.

Strawberry Long Cake

1 yellow cake mix (plus ingredients to prepare)
1-16 ounce tub Cool Whip

1-2 pounds fresh strawberries
3/4 cup sugar
 

Prepare cake mix according to package directions and allow to cool. Hull and slice berries. Place berry slices in a glass bowl and sprinkle sugar over slices. Allow to sit for about 15 minutes or until the sugar begins to create a sauce. Use a large-tined fork (like a meat fork) to poke holes throughout the cake. Pour on strawberries and their juice. Frost cake with Cool Whip. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
