Tuesday, February 9, 2010 - Remodeling Day 3
Today was spent running errands and gathering supplies - who knew it could take so long at a hardware store?  The first run was to Wal-Mart to get a much needed broom and some posion for some unwelcome house guests and then we went to the sanitation department to get a large dumpster set.  We visited both hardware stores in town to get the list of supplies Joe had asked for and hopefully we are done shopping for a while.  By the time we had every gathered and were headed to the new house we saw the "dumpster man" (as the kids lovingly dubbed him) going down the street.  We made a quick dash to the car and were able to watch him set the dumpster at the new house (the small things really do amuse us).  After he was done we unloaded all of our supplies, put them away and headed back to the old house so I could get ready for scouts.  Joe took Krista and Corey back this evening so they could get some actual work accomplished for the day, and they did.  They were able to get out almost all of the carpet and more paneling down and of course all of our piles went out to the dumpster.

Monday, February 8, 2010 - Remodeling Day 2
This afternoon the kids and I (kids = Sydnee, Krista and Corey) went down to the new house and removed the rest of the outlet covers and switchplates.  We took down the trim in the living room we could reach, but had to wait on Jody to take down the top trim so we could not take down any paneling.  I took down all of the wall trim in Sydnee's room and then she and Corey pulled up the carpet in her room.  We were surprised to see more patched hardwood in her room, the area we had originally peeked under looked like linoleum tiles.  After dinner, we all went back down to the house and Jody pulled the rest of the trim in the living room and took down the paneling.  With Sydnee's help, he took down all of the trim in the dining room and removed the paneling in that room as well.  The old tile ceiling in the hall by Sydnee's room came down too.  Krista and Corey removed the cabinet hardware in the kitchen and all of the kids worked together to pull up the carpet in the family room.  Tomorrow we will see about getting a large dumpster since we are getting carpet piles all over the house. Sunday, February 7, 2010 - Remodeling Day 1 Photos
Today was a fairly productive day.  The girls and I went to the house this morning and worked at tearing out carpet.  We were able to completely remove it from Krista's room (well, at least to her doorway) and most of it from the dining room.  We were a little disappointed to find the largest part of the hardwood flooring had been removed from the dining room.  The original plan was to have the hardwood refinished in the living, dining and Krista's room.  We haven't gotten the carpeting up in the living room yet, but where the two rooms meet (living and dining) there is plywood instead of hardwood, so we've accepted the fact that we will most likely be carpeting the entire house.  We went pretty unprepared (ok, totally unprepared)  so that's as much as we could do without a box knife as all of the carpeting is attached from room to room.  We then went to lunch with Jody, gathered needed supplies (including some very cute overalls for Krista, we're still looking for some for Sydnee) and went out to a friend's house to pick up a heater.  Then Jody and I went back to the house and got all of the paneling down in Krista's room.
